Tally Oaks Veterinary Service

2. Tally Oaks Veterinary Service

19302 Silcott Springs Road, Purcellville, VA 20132

Tally Oaks Veterinary Service is a full-service ambulatory equine practice and small animal practice located on 22 acres in Purcellville, Virginia. If you think you live too far away from Purcellville, check the map again! You may enjoy the drive into the heart of Virginia horse country. You can visit us for your pets and then visit some of our fabulous restaurants, vineyards, the town of Middleburg, the Shenandoah Mountains, etc. You can even leave your pets here for the day while you explore for a small boarding fee.

Since 2001 Dr. Woerner has been serving animal owners in Northern Virginia, including Loudoun, Fauquier and Clarke Counties.

Dr. Woerner believes in an all-encompassing, holistic approach to animal care that includes education, prevention, conventional therapy, laser therapy, essential oils and acupuncture. Establishing and maintaining long-term relationships with our clients is our number one priority.

Our small animal services are affordable - Call us to find out more

We offer these services in a small, quiet farm-like setting with affordable prices and hassle-free drop off and pick up. At this facility we can now offer more advanced medical services as well as surgical procedures. Our services include wellness exams, treatment of medical conditions (infections, injuries, allergies, wounds, etc.) microchipping, tick-borne disease testing, heartworm testing, fecal analysis and deworming. Our surgical services include advanced wound repair, hernia repairs, spays, neuters and mass biopsies/removals.

Our surgery suite features state of the art anesthesia equipment and advanced monitoring during anesthesia. We also have a top of the line dental unit with a piezo-electric dental scaler, ideal for removing tartar in a safe, efficient manner. We offer affordable (starting at $350) dental cleaning, polishing and fluoride treatment as well as dental extractions (extra fee) when needed along with dental care counseling and dental care products.

We offer microchipping for all animals using the AVID microchip system. Did you know that every two seconds a pet is lost! The system works by simply injecting a tiny microchip just under the skin. If you pet is lost and turned into an animal shelter or animal control officer, they scan the pet for the unique ID number and then call a 24-hour hotline to identify the owner. We charge $64 to implant the chip and then you pay a one- time fee of $19.95 to register your pet, enrolling your pet for your pet’s lifetime. Call us to schedule this life-saving procedure.

We have state of the art digital x-ray imaging equipment and digital ultrasound for small animals and horses. Our facility has a round pen and a large ring to facilitate lameness diagnosis in horses. In addition to our routine procedures such as joint injections, we now offer mesotherapy for our equine patients with neck and back pain. Laser and essential oils are also great ways to treat sore backs and other unexplained lameness.

We also provide medical and surgical services for alpacas.

Acupuncture is part of one of the oldest systems of medicine in the world - Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was developed in China over 4000 years ago and is still one of most commonly used medical systems in the world.

What conditions in Dogs Benefit from Acupuncture?

A huge variety of conditions in dogs benefit from acupuncture. Most common musculoskeletal, respiratory, neurological, urogenital, dermatologic and cardiovascular conditions can benefit, and also some behavioral conditions.

What Conditions in Horses Benefit from Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is increasingly used for performance horses, both to treat clinical conditions and maximize sub-optimal performance in the absence of clinical disease. Dr. Woerner has seen amazing results in horses with sore backs. A major benefit of the use of acupuncture in competition horses is that no drugs are used. If a horse is treated with drugs, it can be banned from competitions.

Electrical stimulation is used in both dogs and horses to reduce pain, increase local circulation, and promote healing. Electrodes applied to the skin deliver low-voltage, intermittent stimulation to surface nerves in the skin. The transmission of pain signals is blocked, and endorphins, the body's natural pain killers, are released. This type of stimulation is non-invasive and non-addictive. It has no side effects and can be used to treat acute or chronic pain. Medical research shows that turning off the pain signal allows the body to heal. Dr. Woerner has used this therapy restore a dogs ability to walk when there was no hope for recovery.

Dr. Woerner trained at the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine and can provide acupuncture for your horse, dog, cat or alpaca. We now use our new therapeutic laser to stimulate the acupuncture points for those pets that just don't like needles.

We look forward to working with you in the future! Please check out our website search for Tally Oaks Vet for more information on what my practice offers.

We Also offer Laser Therapy
The beneficial effects of laser light on tissue were first recognized almost forty years ago. Since then, there have been thousands of studies documenting the positive effects laser light has on different types of cells, tissue, and disorders. Recent advances in technology and manufacturing have made it possible to have this exciting modality available and affordable for clinicians.
Treatment protocols are unique to each patient and condition. Therefore, treatments will vary in time, complexity and cost. For some chronic patients, multiple joints will be treated during one laser treatment session. When appropriate, laser therapy can be used as a complementary adjunct to other treatment plans.
If your pet is feeling pain, has inflammation, or a wound, the laser is a sterile, pain-free, surgery-free, drug-free treatment. The laser is used to treat a variety of injuries, wounds, fractures, neurological conditions, numerous dermatological problems, and pain. Whether your pet is rehabilitating from trauma or injury, healing from wounds, or simply aging, the laser has been shown to provide relief and speed healing.
The laser light is delivered through a non-invasive handpiece to treat the affected area. Your pet will feel a gentle and soothing warmth. As the laser is administered, many pets will relax, much like you would experiencing a good massage. The almost immediate relief of pain will allow your pet to be comfortable and any anxiety that your pet initially experienced will dissipate.
The Companion therapy laser system sends photons, or packets of light energy, deep into tissue without damaging it. These photons are absorbed within the mitochondria of the cells and induce a chemical change called “photo-bio-modulation”. This light energy then inspires production of A T P in the cell. A T P is the fuel, or energy, cells need for repair and rejuvenation. Impaired or injured cells do not make this fuel at an optimal rate. Increased A T P production leads to healthier cells, healthier tissue, and healthier animals.
There are no known side effects with this treatment.
You might see a change in activity when your pet comes home. For some it might be increased activity and others may be more relaxed. This is due to the pain relief and reduction in inflammation.
There are no specific things you need to do at home, other than follow normal restrictions, dietary needs, and additional treatment protocols as you pet’s condition dictates and is outlined by your veterinarian.

Simply put, it provides relief. The fur does not need to be clipped. Eye protection will be worn by the laser operator and anyone in a close proximity to the laser probe. The eyes of the animal will be directed away from the treatment area or covered with a towel or eye wear. The clinician will move the probe over the area of treatment to assure the laser is being delivered to the area which needs improvement.
As the laser is administered, often pets will relax and enjoy, much like you would experiencing a good massage. The almost immediate relief of pain will allow your pet to be comfortable and any anxiety that your pet initially experienced will dissipate. Occasionally, angry cats will start to purr and dogs will fall asleep during their therapy session.
Just follow normal treatment protocols as outlined. You do not need to be overly cautious nor should you overdo any activities. Just business as usual.
You may see relief in the first treatment or so as pain and inflammation are reduced. For example: better mobility for joint conditions, drying and healing of dermatological issues, faster healing for wounds and incisions, or your pet just seeming more relaxed and comfortable . For some conditions, a series of treatments may be necessary before you see results due to the severity or complexity of the condition. Each pet is different, and treatments are unique for your pet’s specific needs
Prices:
10 Treatment Package: $400
Single Treatment Price $50/Session
All therapy is performed by either Dr. Woerner or by a licensed veterinary laser technician under the direct supervision of Dr. Woerner.
