Dr. Alison Birken received her degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida. Following her graduation, she served an internship at the nationally renowned Florida Veterinary Specialists in Tampa, Florida, where she gained extensive experience in the emergency, routine and preventative treatment of a wide variety of small animals. Upon completion of her internship, she spent 3 years working in a well established general practice in Hollywood, Florida. Her expertise includes all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery.
Dr. Birken actively participates in continuing education seminars several times per year. She is a member in good standing of The American Veterinary Medical Association and The Florida Veterinary Medical Association.
"My passion for the care and wellbeing of animals began when I was a child. For as long as I can remember I knew I wanted to be a veterinarian. Throughout my entire career, I have always strived to take care of every pet as if it were my own. I can think of no better way to spend my day than bringing joy to animal lovers by returning their pets to good health," said Dr. Birken.
My name is Ana and I am thrilled to be part of Victoria Park Animal Hospital's staff. My passion has always been in animals and this is truly a dream job for me.
Owning and loving a pet is a blessing all people should experience. I am excited to be working with Dr. Birken and the great staff at Vpah
My name is Ronnie Birken and I have been working at an animal hospital for the past 5 years as a receptionist. I am fortunate enough to be able to combine my love and passion for all animals with a job I truly enjoy.
I have worn many hats over the years including teaching in special education, a floral designer at Grants Flowers on Las Olas Boulevard, retail sales, and most importantly, mother to 4 great children, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a 17 year old cockatiel, and grandmother to my wonderful grandson, Mason.
In my spare time I enjoy watercolor painting and gardening. I am very excited to be part of Victoria Park Animal Hospital and look forward to meeting our new friends and their pets.
My name is Denise and I have been working in the animal field for over 15 years. My passsion and love for animals began as a child. When I was young, I would tell people one day I want to live on acres of land so that I can save the stray animals and give them a derserving home.
My experience began as a veterinary receptionist which progressed to a general manager for a vetetrinary hospital for 10 years. I met Dr. Birken while she was doing relief work for a veterinary hospital I was working at. From the moment I met her I could sense the compasion and love she has for animals. I was thrilled to learn she was opening her own clinic and there was an oppurtunity for me to work with her.
My hobbies include being in the outdoors, camping, and mudding. I am married, have five children, and am a proud grandmother to our new grandbaby Chloe. I have five rescue dogs and a rescue cat with three legs. I enjoy finding loving homes for strays and am proud to say I have fostered and placed hundreds of animals in wonderful homes.
Dr. Carrie Benson joined our team in February of 2015. After graduating from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine with Dr. Birken, she was a general practitioner in the central Florida area. Early in 2015, she decided to relocate back to Fort Lauderdale where she is originally from in order to be closer to her family.
"As a child, I especially enjoyed science and math classes in school, and my family has had a bit of a menagerie of pets throughout the years. Put these two things together, and you get someone who loves animals and has the desire to care for them medically. I wouldn't have chosen another career! It is my hope to help clients have happy, rewarding, and responsible relationships with their pets for many years," said Dr. Benson.
Hi! My name is Isabel and I am a pet care specialist here at vpah. I have been with vpah since 2014 and I also have been in the Animal Industry for 3 years. I have always had a soft spot for all animals and love what I do because they make me happy and it's my job to ensure they are happy during their visit here.
