Dr. Nicole Syngajewski is an Associate Veterinarian at both the VCA Whitman and Hanson Animal Hospitals.
A North Shore native, she graduated from UMass Boston in 2006 with a BS in Biology, and from Ross University in 2014 with her DVM. She completed her clinical year at the University of Illinois before deciding to return to Massachusetts to be closer to her family.
Although she adores working with dogs and cats, she has a special interest in exotic pets, and plans to be seeing more of them in the near future here at VCA Whitman. Dr. Syngajewski has a special interest in pain management, dermatology, and oncology. In June of 2015, she completed her clinical training at the Chi Institute in veterinary acupuncture, and has begun to integrate the Eastern technique in management of chronic cases (such as arthritis) while working towards her certification in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM). She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), and the American Association of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine.
In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, scuba diving, yoga and playing games with friends. She has a rescue cat named Reese, and 2 rescue dogs--Kami and Liamuiga.
Dr. Destiny O'Brien is an Associate Veterinarian who works predominantly at VCA Whitman Animal Hospital, but does surgical procedures through VCA Hanson Animal Hospital. She graduated from St. George's University of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. After completing a clinical year at Louisiana State University's busy tertiary care facility, she moved back to her hometown on the South Shore to practice medicine.
Before attending veterinary school, Dr. O'Brien was Director of The Ellen Gifford Sheltering Home for Cats in Brighton, MA for 8 years, where she was, and continues to be, a strong advocate for client education as a way to promote better lives for cats (and now dogs) under her care. While away at school, Dr. O'Brien worked diligently to rescue, treat, foster, and place stray cats and dogs in permanent, loving homes.
Dr. O'Brien obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont, with a major in environmental ethics, policy and law, and a minor in wildlife biology. She completed an undergraduate thesis on wildlife rehabilitation, and after graduating, continued to pursue work rehabilitating local wildlife and caring for permanently injured educational species.
Dr. O'Brien is currently pursuing interests in internal medicine, soft tissue surgery and ultrasonography. Along with Dr. Syngajewski, she is excited to add exotics medicine to the practice. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP).
Dr. O'Brien's household includes three rescued chihuahuas and two rescued cats. Her interests outside of veterinary medicine include gardening, traveling and spending time with family.
