Laura Winemiller, DVM, Medical Director
Laura Winemiller, DVM, Medical Director

Dr. Laura Winemiller graduated from The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. She holds a Masters of Science in Biology from Yale University. Dr. Winemiller practiced in southwestern Ohio for two years before relocating to northern California where she has spent the past 12 years at VCA Westside Animal Hospital. She enjoys general veterinary medicine and the study of infectious disease. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family on their 2 acre mini-farm in Elk Grove. Her hobbies include rooting for the Buckeyes, and lots of mowing.

Brian Hollern, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Brian Hollern was born and raised in Point Reyes, California. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from UC Davis and completed his veterinary degree at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. Upon graduation, Dr. Hollern completed a one-year small animal internship at VCA PetCare Emergency and Specialty in Santa Rosa, CA. His special interests include internal medicine, radiology and surgery. While in veterinary school, he served as a volunteer at the Mercer Clinic for the homeless pets of Sacramento. The Mercer Clinic provides veterinary care through the donation of services, supplies and food to the pets of homeless and underprivileged people in the Sacramento region. He was also the Vice President of the Pet Loss Support Club at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, which provides resources and education on grief and support for pet owners for the more than 100 club members. He enjoys spending his free time playing with his cat, Olive, fishing with friends and family, and avidly following the Golden State Warriors and San Francisco 49ers.

Dr. Reese is a 2003 graduate of North Carolina State University. She has been practicing in the Sacramento area since 2005. She enjoys animal behavior, internal medicine and dermatology. Outside of work, she enjoys competing with her Border Collie in canine agility and spending time with her husband and daughter.

Melinda Sarte, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Sarte has been caring for pets in the Sacramento region since she graduated from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. Dr. Sarte was awarded Phi Zeta membership, meaning that she scored among the highest achieving members of her class. She also has a Masters degree in systems physiology and has experience teaching at the university level. Dr. Sarte finds most aspects of veterinary medicine interesting, but has special interests in surgery, management of trauma, geriatric medicine, and hospice care. She treats dogs, cats, and most small mammals. In her spare time Dr. Sarte enjoys gardening and traveling.
