VCA West Bernardo Animal Hospital is located in the beautiful community of Rancho Bernardo just west of I-15 on the corner of Rancho Bernardo Road and Duenda Road. Our hospital is in the Westwood Shopping Center with the famous Edelweiss Bakery. We can be found directly across from Taco Bell and next to Continental Dry Cleaner.
We are a comfortable, medically full service AAHA accredited veterinary hospital. With skilled and caring veterinarians we provide well pet and sick pet services, for puppies & kittens, adult dogs & cats, senior pets and pocket pets. In addition to our primary, preventive & advanced care services, we offer: complete wellness care, diagnostic and medical care, vaccines, including weekly Preventative Care vaccine Clinics; spay, neuter, and pet dental care; surgeries, digital x-ray, cold laser therapy, ultrasound, laboratory testing, stem cell therapy and house calls. We also provide a comfortable and safe boarding facility, and professional grooming services for dogs and cats. Ask us about CareClub, the wellness plan with easy, affordable monthly payments. Dr. Robbins is the Medical Director of VCA West Bernardo Animal Hospital. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of California, Davis and graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. Although a native Californian, Dr. Robbins spent 10 years practicing veterinary medicine in the Southeast. Dr. Robbins has a deep passion for pain management and frequently lectures to veterinarians on this topic. He is a member of several international pain societies and certified in stem cell therapy. In addition, Dr. Robbins writes pet advice columns for several San Diego magazines and newspapers. Dr. Robbins enjoys cooking, fishing and spending time with his family.read more
Dr. Hackett is a 1997 graduate of The University of California, Davis where she majored in Biology. She obtained her veterinary degree from The Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island in 2001. She has a special interest in dermatology, preventative medicine and geriatrics. Dr. Hackett is a San Diego native and enjoys taking walks with her dog Sunny, spending time with her family and skiing (water and snow).read more
Born in PA, Dr. Schlereth's family moved to New York when he was a child. He spent his teenage years working in a small animal hospital helping care for the dogs and cats. He received his B.S. in Animal Science from Cornell University and continued his education at Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated with his DVM in 1996.
Dr. Schlereth worked in New York City for several years before moving to San Diego in 2002 and opening his own practice. After selling his animal hospital, Dr. Schlereth joined the VCA West Bernardo Animal Hospital in 2014.
Dr. Schlereth has a long haired Dachshund named Basil and two zebra finches (Plucky and Scrapple). Dr. Schlereth enjoys dermatology and parasites. He believes that all cats and dogs should be on monthly parasite prevention to protect the health of pets and their human families alike.
Dr. Schlereth is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, California Veterinary Medical Association, San Diego County Veterinary Medical Association and is accredited by the USDA.
