Dr. James Herrington

Dr. James "Jim" Herrington operates as our hospital's Medical Director and brings to our practice the passion for exception veterinary care. Serving the South Florida community for over 25 years, his love of animals and commitment to their care is proven.

His special interests include internal medicine, dentistry, South Florida Police Canine Officer Care. VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital Intern program Co-Director.

Jim enjoys spending time with his wife, children and yellow lab, Charlotte.

Dr. Jon has a special interest in Orthopedic Surgery, Sports medicine and Radiology. Jon has lectured on Veterinary Orthopedic medicine nationally and Internationally…from Japan to South Africa. He is co-editor of the textbook “Canine Sports Medicine and Surgery" and is an adjunct assistant professor at the Ohio state University and the University of Florida.

On a more personal level Jon enjoys fly fishing and world travel.

Dr. Larry Dee

Certified Canine and Feline Practice.

Special interests include internal medicine, orthopedics, endoscopy and soft tissue surgery. Larry has been a representative to the American Board of Veterinary Specialties for nine years. He has also been the past president of several integral veterinary boards which include the following: Charter Diplomat of The American Board of Veterinary Practicioners, Florida Veterinary Medical Association (FVMA), American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), World Small Animal Veterinary Association, Florida Animal Friend, Inc, (non-profit spay/neuter license plate organization). Larry has been a Delegate to the American Veterinary Medical Association House of Delegates for 15 years and a Chairman of both the Broward County Pet Overpopulation Focus Group and the Broward County Animal Care and Regulation Advisory Committee for the last 12 years. Larry has been honored as both the FVMA and the AAHA Practitioner of the Year on different occasions and was a Commencement speaker at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine.

On a more personal level Larry enjoys taking part in many organized veterinary medicine groups. He is on the Board of Directors and a member of the Hollywood Rotary Club, animal welfare, golfing and world travel.

Dr. Anne Murphy

Internship - VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital

Dr. Anne Murphy, a native of Ohio, graduated from Ohio State University in 1990. She joined the VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital team that same year as part of their Internship Program and at its conclusion accepted the invitation to stay on. For over 20 years, Dr. Murphy has become a staple at VCA Hollywood and is best known for her special interest in ultrasonography, echocardiography, internal medicine and soft tissue surgery.

Although this was not always Dr. Murphy’s calling. As a child, Anne, longed for a pony and pestered her parents to no avail. It was then that she decided to become a horse vet “so she could be surrounded by them [ponies] everyday". Once in vet school, her passions thankfully turned toward small animal care.

When not at the VCA Hollywood, Dr. Murphy, enjoys spending time with her husband rooting for The Ohio State Buckeyes, cooking and traveling. Although she always loves returning home to her Labrador- Guiness, her cats- Tommy Bay and Finn and her Catalina Macaw- Max.

Dr. Melanie Hnot

Residency Trained Veterinary Dermatology

Dr. Melanie Hnot, VMD was born and raised in New Jersey, but is excited about her recent move to South Florida. After graduating from Mount Holyoke College, she completed veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania. She then went on to complete a one year small animal surgery and medicine internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls, NJ and followed this with a dermatology internship at several practices in NJ and PA. She completed her dermatology residency and also received a Masters of Science degree from The Ohio State University in 2015. Her special dermatology interests include allergic diseases and otitis.

Outside of the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her greyhound and at the beach.

Dr. Randi Fishkin

Dr. Randi Fishkin (Ranade) grew up in Stony Brook, NY and attended Brandeis University for her undergraduate degree. In 2001 she graduated from The Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island. Dr Fishkin went on to then complete her general rotating internship as well as a dual residency in Internal Medicine and Emergency and Critical Care at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan. She has attained board certification in both specialties. Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Fishkin continued to work in Manhattan as a Criticalist from 2006-2012. She moved to South Florida in 2012 for the weather, the ocean and a back yard!

Dr. Nicole Patterson
Dr. Nicole Patterson

Internship - VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital

Dr. Nicole Patterson grew up in sunny South Florida. She first fell in love with animals as a young child when her father owned horses in Kentucky. Growing up she always thought she would grow up to become an equine veterinarian, but she soon found small animal practice was her calling.

Dr. Patterson joined the team at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital as an intern in 2010 after completing Veterinary School at the University of Florida. After completing the internship Dr. Patterson stayed on staff as an Associate Veterinarian. Her special interests include surgery, wound management and reconstruction, and internal medicine.

Outside of Hollywood Animal Hospital, Dr. Patterson enjoys traveling, going to the beach, Crossfit, and has recently completed her first Disney Princess half marathon (and is looking forward to many more!). She also enjoys taking her dog Roscoe to the park and spending quality time with friends and family.

Dr. David Shapiro

Dr. Shapiro attended the University of Illinois for his undergraduate and veterinary degrees. He then moved down to balmy south Florida in 2007 to do a small animal internship at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital and has stayed working as an associate veterinarian.

His special interests include internal medicine, emergency surgery, laser surgery, endoscopy, and dental procedures. He also places a large focus on preventive medicine and wellness care.

In Dr. Shapiro’s free time he enjoys the outdoors, kayaking, walking his dogs with his family, and watching sports.

Originally from upstate New York. After receiving her bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in psychology from the University of Delaware, she worked as a research technician in a chemistry and biology lab.Volunteering in an animal shelter and subsequent jobs as a veterinary assistant solidified her interest in veterinary medicine. Dr. Heim received her veterinary degree from Tufts University and her interest include internal medicine, emergency medicine and nutrition. In her spare time, she spends as much time as possible on the beach enjoying the beautiful Florida weather. She has 2 cats, Charlie and Evelyn.

Dr. Jessica Lukens was born and raised a south Floridian. She saw snow for the first time when she moved to Ohio to begin her veterinary education. She received her DVM from Ohio State University and her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida. Dr. Lukens is an advocate for pitbulls and believe that they are a very loving and loyal breed. The beach has always been her serenity. Her special interests in veterinary medicine include surgery, emergency medicine and animal behavior. Her three babies are “Lacie” a 7 year old Jack Rat, Tyson a 5 year old Pitbull, and Scarlet a 3 year old boxer. In her free time, you can always find her somewhere in the sun. She loves laying out, water sports, snowboarding, and any other outdoor activity. She is extremely honored and excited to be a part of VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital and looks forward to meeting all of her clients!

Dr. Jessica Duhon
Dr. Jessica Duhon

Dr. Duhon has wanted to be a veterinarian as long as she can remember and grew up with a number of pets. She was born in upstate New York and moved to Atlanta at the age of 10. While completing her Bachelors degree in Avian Biology at the University of Georgia she worked as a veterinary technician in an emergency animal clinic.

She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the wonderfully beautiful island of St. Kitts for her veterinary preclinical coursework and continued onto Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine for her clinical year of study. While she loves all aspects of veterinary medicine, her favorite areas include Dermatology, Ophthalmology and Emergency Medicine.

In her free time, Dr. Duhon enjoys swimming in the ocean, pottery, photography and traveling. Dr. Duhon has two cats, Bogey and Roxie, which she adopted while in St. Kitts. She also has one dog, an 11 year old Pug named Maisy, who has been her travel companion. She is very thankful and excited to be a part of Hollywood Animal Hospital!
