Dr. Kate Martell graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. She worked at veterinary hospitals in Florida and Oregon before moving to Alaska and joining VCA Eagle River in 2000.
Dr. Martell is always enthusiastic to take on new and challenging cases. She is particularly interested in endoscopy, ultrasound, endocrinology, and oncology.
She lives with her husband, Jay, daughter Camille, cat, Smokey, and Lab, Riley. When time permits Dr. Martell loves world traveling, scuba diving, gardening and camping.
School: Colorado State University
Dr. Julie Hanlon graduated from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. She returned to Alaska and began working at Four Paws Animal Hospital. When VCA merged with Four Paws and built a new clinic in 2003 Dr. Hanlon joined the VCA team.
Dr. Hanlon's interests include internal medicine, oncology and emergency medicine.
She lives with her husband, Stewart, two dogs Holly and Sitka, and four cats Pita, Stinky, Simba and Rudy. In her free time she likes camping, hiking, swimming, traveling and going to ACES hockey games.
Originally from Mississippi, Dr. Harlow returned to his home state after serving in the Army for 6 years. He earned his B.S. in Biological Sciences, with honors, from the University of Southern Mississippi. After graduating from Mississippi Sate College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Harlow moved to Alaska to join our team in 2013. He has a special interest in exotic animal medicine and was President of the Wildlife, Exotic, Zoo, Avian and Aquatic Association at Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Harlow's love for the mountains brought him to Alaska. He enjoys hiking, fishing and enjoying the outdoors with his wife, Stacy, their son, Steven, daughter Patricia, and their rat terrier Jackson. He is also an avid runner, and supports Autism Awareness and is actively involved with Focus here in Eagle River.
Dr. Malisha Small graduated from Kansas State University in 1995. She moved to Alaska in October of 2016 after working in Washington State for the past 11 years. There she saw a wide variety of patients ranging from dogs and cats, to rabbits, hamsters, lizards, turtles, birds and even a praying mantis! She has a strong interest in Wildlife and exotic animal medicine, especially reptiles and amphibians. She has been an active member of the Association for Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians and the Association for Exotic Mammal Veterinarians.
When not at work, she is an avid fly fisher and also enjoys scuba diving, medieval history, and fencing. Lately, she has been doing volunteer work with a non-profit organization helping veterans and inner-city youth.
