Welcome to VCA Angel Animal Hospital!
We're conveniently located between I35W and I35E south of the intersection of FM2499 and FM1171 in Flower Mound, Texas. VCA Angel is an accredited AAHA practice and boarding facility that offers the highest quality medicine for your sick or healthy puppy and kittens, adult dogs and cats, senior pets and even your pocket pets too! Be sure to ask us about our CareClub program, it is our wellness plan with easy, affordable monthly payments. Our medical services include vaccines, digital x-rays, blood work, lab testing, spays and neuters, and dentals. Our expanded services include rehabilitation, ultrasound, digital dental radiography, cutting laser surgery, diagnostic testing and so much more! Additionally, our doctors and staff understand the unique needs of our feline patients and want to do everything possible to make their visit to the veterinarian as stress free and comfortable as possible. Our facility includes a feline-only waiting room, two feline-only exam rooms, and a special feline intensive care and surgery recovery area.
We are proud to have a cutting-edge rehabilitation services that enables our veterinarians to provide innovative treatments for pain, surgical recovery, arthritis, neurological deficits and many other conditions that have previously been treated solely with medication. Our rehabilitation services are directed by our certified canine rehabilitation therapist, and includes an underwater treadmill (great for pets trying to shed those pounds!), a pulsed signal therapy unit and a therapeutic laser.
Our hospital also includes a large luxury boarding facility so that your pets can have the ultimate in comfort and care when you must be away from home. Canine guests can choose from large suites to smaller condominiums, and our feline friends lounge in our quiet, double suites with full-length window views located far from the hubbub of the hospital.

Veterinary School: Oklahoma State University
Valarie Romo, DVM grew up in Oklahoma, attended the University of Oklahoma for her undergraduate education and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State in 1994. We feel very fortunate that she decided to venture to Texas, or else she wouldn't have joined the Angel team in 2006!
Dr. Romo's has a special interest in exotic and pocket pets, as well as advanced dentistry. Her personal pet menagerie includes Bounder the Greyhound, Misty the cat and two very special gerbils Austin and Spock.
When not working Dr. Romo enjoys gardening, reading and teaching pre-school at her church. Of course spending time with her husband, two sons and daughter are always at the top of the list!
Veterinary School: Texas A&M University
Kristen Hassler, DVM is from Houston, Texas. She attended Baylor University for her undergraduate work and graduated veterinary school from Texas A&M University in 2002. Following graduation, Dr. Hassler practiced emergency medicine for the next six years, and she continues to have a special interest in the area of critical care.
Dr. Hassler has recently moved to the Flower Mound area. She has a miniature schnauzer named Abbie and three cats - Isis, Doodle, and Pickles. During her time off, Dr. Hassler enjoys playing golf, quilting, and scuba diving.
Veterinary School: Colorado State University
Graduate School: Colorado State University
Matt Lane is a native of the Texas Panhandle, and attended West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas before transferring to Colorado State, where he received his Bachelor's degree in Biology. He furthered his studies in Anatomy and Neurobiology, receiving his Master's degree, and ultimately completed his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2004. Among his many other talents, Dr. Lane is also a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist.
Dr. Lane is married to a native Texan and has 3 young children. Recently they lost their Border Collie "Josie" after 15 years of companionship, and the family has yet to decide on their new pet. Dr. Lane loves to spend time with his family, as well as to fish and play golf.
Veterinary School: University of Pennsylvania
Graduate School: McGill University
Cristián Palma is originally from Lima, Peru. Born into a diplomatic family, he has lived in many countries while growing up, including, France, Peru, England, Yugoslavia, and Brazil. Dr. Palma received his International Baccalaureate degree while on scholarship at Lester Pearson United World College in Victoria, British Columbia. He went on to do his Bachelor's degree in Biology, and Master's in Ecology at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. To further his studies, he received his Doctorate in Veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1995. His first year practicing was spent in New Jersey at a small animal hospital with 5 other veterinarians.
In 1996, he and his wife moved to the Flower Mound area and he joined a small animal practice in Dallas, where he spent the next seven years. Dr. Palma worked part time at Angel Veterinary Center for two years, and joined our team full time in April 2007. Dr. Palma loves to spend time with his wife and 3 children, is a purple belt in karate and enjoys reading, languages and traveling. He has 2 cats, Maya and Sara and hopes to eventually add a dog to the mix.
Veterinary School: Texas A&M University
Dr. Stanley is a native Texan and has called the Dallas Forth Worth Metroplex home for the majority of her life. After graduating from Ursuline Academy of Dallas, she attended Texas A&M University and graduated summa cum laude with a bachelors in biomedical sciences. She continued her stay in College Station attending Texas A&M University to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, Dr. Stanley returned to the Dallas Forth Worth Metroplex and has been in the area since.
Flower Mound has been her home since 2008 and she joined the Angel Veterinary Center team in 2011. When she's not having fun working with her patients, Dr. Stanley enjoys riding her horse, Davy, taking her dog, Bella, for runs in the local parks, and finding ways to keep her cat, Kismet, out of trouble (a full time job itself!).
Veterinary School: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Kristin Strelec, DVM grew up in Chicago and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she received both her bachelor's degree and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. Immediately following graduation, Dr. Strelec moved to Arlington, Texas where she practiced emergency and critical care medicine at a referral hospital for five years before joining Angel Veterinary Center. Her interests are emergency medicine, surgery, and abdominal and cardiac ultrasound.
Dr. Strelec shares her home with her husband, daughter, two Great Danes and four cats. She also has a horse named Pecos Bill and is an avid ice hockey player.
Veterinary School: Kansas State University
Beverly Unger, DVM grew up in the small town of Herndon, Kansas. She attended the 1st grade and graduated valedictorian of her senior class all at the same school. She was raised on a farm/ranch with many animals.
Dr. Unger is a 1987 graduate from Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She worked in Oklahoma for one year at a mixed animal practice before moving to Texas. She has been practicing veterinary medicine for over twenty years and we are very lucky to have had her as part of team for fourteen of those years.
Dr. Unger is married and has one teenage son. On her days off, you will find her on a jogging trail, or working out in the gym, and juggling a hectic schedule of mom, doctor, and wife.
