VCA Alpine Animal Hospital is a full service practice offering all aspects of veterinary care. Our hospital has been caring for pets in the Anchorage community for over 25 years and our doctors have over 20 years of education and and experience combined. In addition, our well trained support staff compliments our outstanding veterinarians. Our team includes two veterinarians, three licensed vet technicians, a groomer, and a complete client service team dedicated to the health and care of your pet. We also run a borading facility for both dogs and cats.

We are an AAHA accredited hospital that has a passion for holistic and preventive pet healthcare. We believe that prevention is the best medicine and offer alternatives to pet owners for the care of our patients. Our mission at Alpine is the be the leader in preventative medicine in Anchorage, and are dedicated to providing exemplary customer service, compassionate care for our patients and foster an environment of continual learning for pet owners and staff members alike. We offer new puppy and kitten packages, pet supplies, premium and prescription pet foods, acupuncture, and more.

Coleen Averill, DVM
Coleen Averill, DVM

Dr. Averill has been with Alpine for nearly 20 years. She began her career as a certified technician and then went on to earn her veterinary degree from Colorado State University. Dr. Averill's calm and compassionate approach to medicine is a breath of fresh air in this fast paced environment. She enjoys hiking and skiing with her three Golden Retrievers and entering them in dog shows for agility.

Tina Simmons, DVM

Dr. Simmons has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 11 years and part of the VCA family for over 7 years. Always wanting to be a veterinarian, she attended Colorado State University and earned her veterinary degree. Dr. Simmons passion, kind manner and compassionate care are wonderful compliments to our Alpine family.

Chad Powers, DVM, DVM

Associate Veterinarian
School: Oklahoma State University

Dr. Powers was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. He came to Alaska in June 2008 because of his love for the wilderness and mountains.

Dr. Powers has 2 cats, 1 Schnauzer, 3 geckos, and a ball python. He enjoys archery, fishing and hiking with his wife.

Jonathan Kuo, DVM
Jonathan Kuo, DVM

Dr. Kuo joined the staff at VCA Alpine during the summer of 2013 after moving to Anchorage from Maryland. He earned degrees in microbiology and philosophy and worked as a veterinary technician before graduating from Tufts University with his veterinary degree. Dr. Kuo enjoys hiking, fishing, and entertaining the whims of his cat Babou.
