Dr. Tesarek, otherwise known as Dr. Joyce, purchased Minnehaha Animal Hospital (Mah) in 1983 so she could build a practice that would focus on working with the owner as a critical partner in their pet’s health care, and tailoring care to each pet’s individual needs. In 2010, the Stevens Square Development Committee recruited her to bring veterinary services to their neighborhood. Located just south of downtown Minneapolis, many residents rely on public transportation and wanted a local clinic, as well as a pet food and supply site within walking distance. The new clinic, PetDoctors opened in 2011. Dr. Jerri Smith joined her house call practice with PetDoctors, expanding services to include home visits.
Dr Joyce earned her BA in Biology and Chemistry at Gustavus Adolphus College, her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota, and her certificate in Veterinary Practice Administration from Purdue. Although now primarily involved with hospital management, Dr. Joyce still regularly consults on hospital cases. She finds great rewards leading the team with the mission to ensure that each pet has a healthy and comfortable life, and that clients feel appreciated, supported and empowered to care for their special pet.
Dr. Joyce is an active volunteer in BnI, her neighborhood organization and her church. She serves on the executive boards of the South Chicago Avenue Business Alliance, the Affiliated Emergency Veterinary Services, and The Animal Care Foundation. She is an active volunteer and Board member of Czech and Slovak Sokol Minnesota and The Czech and Slovak Cultural Center. In 2006 she received the Cernín Palace Bronze Medallion and diploma from the government of the Czech Republic for "great and significant contribution to the progress of Czech-American relations." She lives in South Minneapolis with her husband Norm. In her free time, she enjoys ethnic activities, travel, gardening and spending time with friends, family and her four cats, Panda, Radar, Kitty and Margo (pictured with Dr Joyce).
Dr. Soule earned her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Notre Dame in 2000. While there, she was actively involved in the marching, concert, and jazz bands playing her trumpet. She went to the University of Minnesota for her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2004. She worked at a clinic in Bloomington after graduation for seven years, and started working for Minnehaha Animal Hospital and Pet Doctors near the end of 2011. Her special interests include feline medicine, soft tissue surgery, and internal medicine.
At home, she lives with her boyfriend, Dave, two dogs, a lab named Mason and a Boston named Chopper, three cats, Koa, Madeline and James, and a tank of saltwater fish. In her free time, she enjoys spending time in the outdoors fishing, hunting, camping, and running with the boys. She also enjoys listening to, and playing, music.
Dr. Kevin Thorsgaard joined the team at Minnehaha Animal Hospital in February 2013. Kevin grew up in Bloomington, and earned a Biology degree at St. Olaf College in Northfield, where he learned it was possible to combine his interests in science, medicine and animals into one rewarding career. He attended the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1990. Since then, working in private practices in the Twin Cities has given him the opportunity to meet thousands of people and help them take care of their special pets. Kevin enjoys the challenge of solving medical mysteries, providing excellent preventative care, performing a variety of surgical procedures, and working closely with owners to give their pets the happiest, longest life possible.
He enjoys most outdoor activities and travel, especially with his wife of 25 years, their two children, and Shelties Chip and Diego.

She has been working since then and enjoys many areas of veterinary medicine including working with the client to help them provide the best quality of life for their companion. Carmen does enjoy all types of animals and an area of special interest is the lab.
