Because of Dr. Shawhan's exceptional care for animals and his commitment to his community; JVAH has grown to be recognized as one of Houston's premier full service animal hospitals.
Dr. Shawhan received his DVM from Louisiana State University in 1981. He purchased Jersey Village Animal Hospital in 1983 with the goal of providing exceptional care to every patient.
Dr. Shawhan received the Humanitarian Award from Houston Pet Placement League and was named one of the Best Veterinarians by Houston Magazine in 2004. His special interests include reconstructive and orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Shawhan enjoys golf and spending time with his wife, Tracy and 3 sons, Matt, Grant and Brad. He has a Vizsla, Guenther, a Maltese, Mia, and 4 cats, Murphy, Weeger, Winston and Hugo.
Dr. Angela Haese joined Jersey Village Animal Hospital in 2006. She graduated with honors from Texas A&M University where she received both a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Haese is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. Her special interests in veterinary medicine include canine and feline internal medicine.
Dr. Haese shares a home with her husband, David, their two cats, Scout and Adonis, and their dog, Foxy. In her personal time she enjoys traveling, reading, watching movies, dining out, shopping and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Stenseng joined Jersey Village Animal Hospital in July 2009. She received her Bachelors degree in Biology from Stanford University, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas A&M University's College of Veterinary Medicine.
Her special interests in veterinary medicine include internal medicine, dentistry, and oncology. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Stenseng has two dogs, a 3-legged Rottweiler, Grover, and a pit bull, Cha Cha. In her free time, she likes singing, playing piano, reading, and tennis.
Dr. Melcher joined Jersey Village Animal Hospital in May 2013. She received her Bachelor�s degree in Animal Science and Entomology from Texas A&M University in May 2009, and graduated with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M.
Dr. Melcher�s veterinary interest include ophthalmology and preventative medicine. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Melcher is a native Houstonian who lives with her husband, Evan, and their Boxer Roxi. In their free time, she and her husband volunteer at their church. Dr. Melcher also enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Erin Ray joined Jersey Village Animal Hospital in June of 2015. She received her Bachelor?s degree in Animal Science from Texas A&M University in May of 2011 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University?s College of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2015.
Dr. Ray?s special interests in veterinary medicine include internal medicine, endocrinology, and reproduction. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Ray and her husband, James, are new residents of Houston along with their border collie mix, Phoebe, miniature schnauzer, Theodore, and cat, Scout. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, friends and church family, playing indoor soccer, and DIYing.
Dr. Gerardo Navas joined JVAH in June of 2016. He received his Bachelor's degree in Animal Science from L.S.U. in May of 2011 and graduated from the L.S.U. School of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2016. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical association and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. His special interests include ophthalmology, soft tissue surgery and internal medicine.
Dr. Navas was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico and is fluent in both English and Spanish. In his spare time, Dr. Navas enjoys spending time with his wife, Rebeca and their daughter, Valentina. They also have two dogs, a Shih Tzu named Dooby and a Schnauzer named Vitto. He also likes to play sports and follow his beloved L.S.U. Tigers!
