The East Hartford Animal Clinic is owned and operated by Dr. Wilfredo Barrios. Dr. Barrios attended the University of Mexico where he received a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1983. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as well as the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA).
In addition to dogs and cats, Dr. Barrios enjoys working with and treating ferrets, birds, reptiles, rabbits, rodents, and guinea pigs.
Dr. Barrios's special interest is ferret preventative medicine and surgery. Among his many ferret patients, he treats all of the shelter and foster ferrets owned by the Ferret Association of Connecticut (F.A.C.T.).* F.A.C.T. has worked closely with Dr. Barrios since l992, and regularly recommends him to people looking for a veterinarian experienced working with and treating ferrets.
Over the years Dr. Barrios has worked very closely with many shelters, adoption groups and low cost spay/neuter programs. Most low cost spay & neuter vouchers are honored at the hospital.
Dr. Barrios and his wife Diane, reside in Manchester. "Doc" is also an avid jogger and sail boarder.
Dr. Vivar joined the EHAC team in September 2006. She obtained her Veterinary Technician certification at Cedar Valley College, all the while studying Veterinary Medicine at San Marcos University in Peru where she then received her DVM degree September 2013. It’s clear to all who know Dr. Vivar that she became a veterinarian for all the right reasons. Her love and concern for animals is undeniable, and her calm, gentle manner calms even the most fearful pet and instills confidence in her human clients.Dr. Vivar has three cats: Mr. Magoo, Mr. Potato Head, and Stella. In her free time, she enjoys reading, and spending time with her family and friends.read more
