We offer a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures, including in-house testing as well as external laboratory services. We also work closely with specialty practices when more complex diagnostic procedures are required. Our facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house x-ray/ultrasound capabilities, a closely supervised hospitalization area, and indoor boarding kennels with outdoor walking areas.
At Brentwood Veterinary Clinic we strive to offer not only sound advice, but also optimal veterinary care, thus allowing you the enjoyment of your companion for a maximum number of years. Our job is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn't feeling well, but also to help you learn how to keep your best friend happy and healthy.
Dr. Hughes was born in Kodiak, Alaska, but has called Chesapeake home for the past 13 years. She received her bachelors degree in biology from The College of William and Mary. She attended veterinary school at Virginia Tech, graduating in 2010. Last year she completed a rotating small animal internship at Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Greensboro, North Carolina focusing on internal medicine, surgery, and emergency care of dogs and cats. Dr. Hughes is excited to be returning home to Hampton Roads to practice quality veterinary medicine at Brentwood. Her interests include internal medicine, but she loves working with puppies and kittens.
Dr. Hughes lives in Chesapeake with her two cats, August and TW. The cats have made sure that Dr. Hughes, who previously described herself as a ?dog person,? is now also a ?cat person.? Outside of work she enjoys photography, horse-back riding, and gardening.
Dr. Carpenter is originally from central Pennsylvania and completed her undergraduate degrees in biology and environmental studies at East Stroudsburg University. She completed veterinary school at the University of Minnesota in 1992 and, after graduation, fled from the cold snow to Virginia. Dr. Carpenter has lived in the Tidewater area for almost 20 years and has worked at several local clinics. Being a veterinarian is the fulfillment of a childhood dream for Dr. Carpenter. Her favorite part of veterinary medicine is puppies and kittens and getting them started on the right foot with preventative health care and educating owners about their pets needs. She has also enjoyed watching veterinary medicine and patient care evolve to a level of excellence exceeding that offered in human medicine.
Dr. Carpenter and her children Clayton and Megan live in Portsmouth and spend their free time visiting zoos and exploring the outdoors. A dog (Diesel), 2 cats (Bob & Wendy), cockatiel (Rainbow), and a tank full of freshwater fish round out the family.
