Ever since I was a little girl growing up in New Boston, I dreamed of becoming a veterinarian so I could help animals live long, healthy and happy lives. I was fortunate to have very supportive parents, who allowed my three sisters and I to have all sorts of furry, feathery, and scaly companions throughout our childhood. Throughout my teenage years I worked with animals in several capacities, all the way from shoveling manure at the local horse stable to assisting in surgery at verterinary hospitals. Along the way I met several caring veterinarians who still serve as mentors and role models as the type of honest, compassionate doctor I strive to be.
I obtained my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University in 2009, and also a Bachelor of Business Administration undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. In private practice I enjoy working with cats and dogs, and also have a special interest in the unique needs of exotic animal species. In my free time, I like to travel, attend rock concerts, and spend time with my family, friends and pets.
Working at Banfield has been a very rewarding experience for me. The amazing patients and pet parents I have met so far and continue to meet every day serve as a constant reminder of why I always wanted to be a part of this profession. It is also energizing and inspiring to be surrounded by a staff of animal caregivers who share my passion and dedication to providing every animal with the excellent healthcare they deserve. As the head doctor here at Banfield of Woodhaven, I am very fortunate to be able to say that I am truly living out my dreams!
Doctor Sarah Smith is a full time associate veterinarian with Banfield Animal Hospital at the Woodhaven Michigan location. She grew up nearby in Temperance Michigan, and received her DVM degree from Michigan State University (Class of 2014). After graduating, she completed a one year rotating internship in Rhode Island with focus on emergency medicine. She has carried a lifelong passion working with, and caring for companion animals and exotic/pocket pets. Her interests stemmed at early age caring for her own pets, undergoing training to become a licensed veterinary technician, working as a technician primarily in emergency medicine, training and fostering assistance dogs and volunteer work to fund raise for Assistance Dogs of America Inc. and educate the public regarding working dogs and emergency medicine. Now and days she finds fulfillment of her passion working in general practice focusing on preventative medicine. She is an active member of the AVMA and MVMA. At home she tends to her two loving black long haired cats, Chowder and Vlad, her two birds Frank and Petrie, her king snake Sace, and fresh water aquarium. On her down time she enjoys spending time outdoors camping, sketching, listening to music, kayaking/boating, and playing disc golf.read more
