I was born in South Africa and grew up on a dairy farm with a succession of pets that included sheep, goats, a parrot, cats and dogs of a variety of breeds and temperaments. Hence my interest in Veterinary Medicine . I have been fortunate in being able to pursue my dream in a career that allows me to interact with people and help their animals.
1964 graduates of the University of Pretoria Veterinary School,
my classmate and colleague, Dr. Arthur Simon and I started out by building a general private practice and hospital in South Africa, prior to emigrating to the United States in 1975. Once in Tampa I joined and then acquired Harris Animal Hospital in east Tampa and soon after built Village Animal Hospital in North Tampa. We ran both AAHA certified hospitals enjoying the support of many clients in providing state of the art care for their animals. The hospitals were purchased by Banfield in June 2016 and are part of Mars Veterinary Services.
Dr. Simon graduated B.V.Sc. at the University of Pretoria in 1964
He worked and owned a practice in South Africa until 1975. He has been in small animal practice in Tampa since 1976 and is currently enjoying his years of experience with the Banfield group of veterinary practices.
He has developed a strong interest in general, orthopedic and cancer surgery. Additional training and experience in Laser Surgery makes this his favorite technique.
Dr. Simon has a particular love for the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed, Rag Doll cats and classical music
Dr. Gary Flicker was born and raised in Chicago and graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois. He has lived and practiced for over thirty five years in Tampa and has been actively involved in the medical and surgical care of both dogs and cats. He is very concerned about meeting owner's expectations and staying current on veterinary health care. When not at work, his outside interests include spending time with his family, friends and two dogs, exercising and traveling. He looks forward to continuing to work with his clients and patients and hopes to continue to be able to provide quality care in the future.
