Virgilio Tolentino, DVM

I am Dr. Virgilio Tolentino and I am one of the doctors here at Banfield East Spring street. I graduated in 1985 with DVM degree from College of Veterinary Medicine, University of the Philippines. I moved to the U.S. and was able to get an RVT license. I worked with County of Los Angeles, Department of Animal Care and Control and City of Los Angeles, Department of Animal Services as an RVT. While working with City of L.A., I continued my studies to get a veterinary license in 2003 and worked briefly as a city veterinarian before going to private practice. Because of my experience in working in animal shelters and private practice, I strongly believe in the importance of population control , preventative care and responsible ownership of pets.

Josie Uyan, DVM

I am Dr. Josie Uyan, one of the primary doctors at Banfield East Spring Street. I joined Banfield this year after graduating from St. George's University of Georgia. Veterinary medicine is my passion as I grew up in a family that truly animals. I grew up knowing I wanted to work in a field that assists and saves dog and cat lives, all thanks to my childhood dog, Jake. Jake lived to see the ripe age of 21 and followed me from elementary school till veterinary school! He taught me that all creatures need the same love and healthcare as us humans. I've volunteered and worked at animal hospitals across the United States and the world including Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, South Africa and the Caribbeans. I would love to meet you and your family, so come pay us a visit!

Julie Tyrrell
Julie Tyrrell

Hi! I am Julie and I am fairly new to Banfield but I am not so new to the animal world. I have been a groomer for over 10 years, animal are life! When I first started on my career path I set out to save "one wet nose at a time". As the years have passed I feel as though I am fulfilling my dream. Banfield has helped expand my knowledge of animals and all their health needs. My over all favorite animal would be a Chow Chows. My family and I have bred and owned chows for well over 20 years. So have no fear your Chow person is here! I am blessed to be part of 2 hospital teams here in Long beach and in Tustin District. If you ever have any grooming questions along with your visit, please do not hesitate to ask me. We as a Banfield family want to make sure you have all your questions and concerns answered.

Mirna Gudiel
Mirna Gudiel

Hello my name is Mirna. As a child I watched my mom nurse a bird back to health and it lived in our bathtub for a while until it had the strength to fly again. Ever since then I started bringing home all the strays I found. Then in high school I got my first dog, Buddy, who is still part of our family till this day! I always joke that I didn't train Buddy, he trained me! And it's true, he trained me to be a compassionate, patient, and loving human. I didn't know for certain that true love existed nor pure unconditional love until we met. Since then, my family has grown since joining Banfield and I look forward to meeting you and your extended family to help provided them with the love care they deserve.

Katelyn Lindley
Katelyn Lindley

Hello, my name is Katelyn. As a child, I was never allowed to have a pet. I would always run up to any dog I saw and squeeze them until I had to leave. At this point in time, I told my parents I wanted to become a veterinarian. After constant begging, my parents one day surprised me with my dog, Ginger, as a Christmas gift. Needless to say, she never left my sight. As I grew up, my love for animals and my aspiration to become a veterinarian stuck with me. It was not until recently that I changed my career path to become a Registered Nurse, and later go back to school to become a Physician's Assistant. My love and passion for saving lives, whether it's animals or humans, will always be a part of me. I am grateful that at Banfield, I am able to start with helping those without a voice.

Carol Heck

Hi, my name is Carol Heck and animals have always been such a large part of my world. I grew up in my families equestrian business and continue to stay active in that to this day. However, for years, I worked in the Human Health Industry. From specializing in insurance billing and consultation, managing small private practices to spending years in the Clinical Research Industry. This past year I was fortunate enough to join the Banfield Team and am so proud to say I've come full circle and back to only working in the four legged furry side and I couldn't be happier!

My love for animals began at an early age. I would often bring sick animals home and nurse them back to health. I began working with animals at 14 and have continued to do so ever since. I have been with Banfield about 6 years and still find my job to be exciting with challenges that help me grow. When I'm not at Banfield, I love spending time with my two babies and my dog Mimis. Even though I wear scrubs most days during my work schedule, I really enjoy fashion. I also enjoy wearing make up and making sure that everyone around me is smiling and laughing. I am excited to get to share new memories at this location.

Melissa Pineda
Melissa Pineda

Hi there! My name is Mel and I have been in the Veterinary field for a little over a year now. I love being able to help animals in need and in doing so being able to spread awareness and inform other on the importance of animal welfare. I enjoy being able to volunteer during my spare time with the Found Animals Foundation in Culver City and having the opportunity to assist doctors on mobile clinics. I strongly believe in giving back to the community and for me, helping in a cause that I am extremely passionate about, means the world to me. Although I am new to the Banfield family I have in the past worked for private practices in where I have had the amazing opportunity to learn aside doctors that have been in the veterinary field for 13 plus years. I am beyond grateful for that, which in turn has increased my knowledge as well as my skill set. I am currently attending Cal State Long Beach studying to major in Biological Sciences in the hopes to one day be a Nurse Practitioner.
