DVM, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Ellen Leonhardt was raised and still lives in Levittown, NY. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in 1988, and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University in 1993. She did her clinical rotation year at Oklahoma State University in 1993 and received her federal accreditation allowing her to write International health certificates in 1994.
Dr. Ellen has been practicing general medicine at Animal General since 1993 and is currently the Medical Director of the hospital. She has also been practicing emergency medicine at Nassau Animal Emergency Clinic since 1993, where she is currently part- time senior veterinarian. Her interests in veterinary medicine include general surgery, internal medicine, wildlife medicine, reptile medicine, and has some experience working with pot-bellied pigs and small goats. She always welcomes "any animal in need that can fit through the front door". Dr. Ellen was the first Veterinarian in New York State to perform a completely IN HOSPITAL Stem Cell treatment on a dog in September 2010.
Dr. Ellen currently has 2 Rottweilers, "Kinsey" and "Joplin" who come to work with her and are the greeters to all who visit Animal General! She also has 2 cats, "Wyatt" and "Darwin", a tortoise, 2 ducks, 2 parakeets, and 3 finches as her family at home. She has 2 outdoor goldfish ponds and uses gardening and fussing with her ponds as her stress relief.
Her outside interests are international travel- with special attention to countries with interesting wildlife. She has become adept at wildlife and landscape photography and many of her pictures adorn the walls of Animal General.
DVM, Ohio State University
Dr. Danielle Perrone grew up in Suffolk County and received her Bachelor of Science degree at SUNY Stony Brook in 2005. Following undergrad she was accepted in to Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2009. After graduation, Dr Perrone came back to New York, where she completed a rigorous one-year general internship at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island in West Islip. She joined Animal General in September 2010 and is excited to assist Dr. Ellen in caring for the pets of the nearby community. Her professional interests include clinical pathology, animal behavior, and internal medicine.
When not in the office, Dr. Perrone enjoys planning get togethers with friends, cooking, running, and trying not to injure herself playing Ultimate Frisbee. Dr. Perrone lives in Deer Park with her husband, Sean and their dog "Bentley" and cats "Slinky" and "Cindy".
