Welcome to Alpine Veterinary Hospital. We have been serving families living in Cabin John, Bethesda, Potomac, DC and communities in Northern VA since 1970. Alpine Veterinary Hospital is a primary care full-service veterinary hospital offering complete medical, surgical and dental procedures for your pets.

Shanthi Ramachandran, VMD, MS
Dr. Shanthi Ramachandran holds a Bachelor's degree in biology and neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating cum laude, as well as a Master's degree in Physiology and Biostatistics from Georgetown University. She received her Veterinary medical degree (VMD) from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Ramachandran completed a competitive internship at VCA
Veterinary Referral Associates in Gaithersburg, MD where she developed a special interest in internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. As a USDA accredited veterinarian, Dr. Ramachandran is licensed to issue international veterinary health certificates.
Native to Bethesda, Dr. Ramachandran attended Walt Whitman High School and worked as a technician at Alpine while in high school. She has grown to love the Alpine family, and she is delighted to join them as a veterinarian. In her free time, she and her husband Tayan enjoy hiking on the Billy Goat trail, running, scuba diving, fine dining and travel. They love their mischievous dog Chaaya, a hound lab rescue. Chaaya accompanies Dr. Ramachandran to work every day and sleeps under her desk.
Alice P. Sartain, DVM
Dr. Sartain grew up in Houston Texas and attended Rice University where she received her undergraduate degree in biology. She attended Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine receiving her BS in Veterinary Medicine and DVM with cum laude.
Dr. Sartain moved to Bethesda in 1995 and worked part-time at several veterinary hospitals in the area while raising children until starting at Alpine in June 2002.
Dr. Sartain and her husband Keith, have four teenage children and a menagerie of animals. Dr. Sartain enjoys ringing in a handbell choir, knitting, biking and taking her four dogs for walks.
