Originally from Pennsylvania, Dr. Freedman moved to Charlottesville in 1978 knowing that this is a great place for families. He was active in his children's high school athletic programs and is a lacrosse coach. He supports many community initiatives and provides substantial funding to many organizations and causes, especially the local chapter of the National Arthritis Foundation. Dr. Freedman and his staff have provided many hours of pro-bono service to needy pet owners and foster-care for pets that have been abandoned.
When not at the hospital, on the road teaching, or getting additional professional education, Dr. Freedman enjoys ballroom dancing, restoring and showing classic British sports cars, and pistol shooting.
