Our practice is staffed, designed and equipped for every avian and small mammal need, from a basic wellness exam and grooming to the most complicated and life saving surgery. Our veterinarians and support staff focus and specialize in avian and small mammal health, medicine, husbandry, and regularly enhance their skills and experience with cutting edge continuing education and training.
The hospital's facilities are laid out and outfitted with the comfort and well being of our avian patients in mind. Our exam rooms, hospitalization units, in house laboratory, surgery suite, boarding facilities and product offerings are all for the birds.
Rhoda Stevenson, DVM Dipl ABVP
Rhoda Stevenson , DVM Dipl ABVP Avian: Dr. Stevenson is a graduate of the University of Florida Veterinary Medical School and has practiced in Jacksonville for over 20 years. She is board certified by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in avian specialty and has owned and operated the Exotic Bird Hospital since 1995, where over 10,000 patients were seen last year.
Rhoda has written articles for national magazines and presented seminars for international organizations. She is also involved with community education appearing on local television and presenting to schools, libraries and several Florida bird clubs. She has worked with the Jacksonville Zoo, is a member of the Zoo Animal Health Committee, and is a frequent consultant for Marineland.
Rhoda lives in Mandarin with forty birds including pet and aviary birds, and her dog Dillion.
Marnie Knight, DVM
Dr. Knight was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama. She has wanted to be a veterinarian since the age of three and fulfilled that dream when she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Auburn University School of Veterinary medicine in 2000. In addition to avian and exotic animal medicine, she is passionate about wildlife medicine, preservation, and rehabilitation. She completed externships at the Montgomery Zoo, the Wildlife Center of Virginia, and the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife . . She is currently a board member of the Wildlife Rescue Coalition of Northeast Florida.
Marnie enjoys hiking, horseback riding, and photography. She has three �kids�: two German Short-haired pointers ( River and a recent rescue) and Chico a Tucaman Amazon that is missing most of his upper beak.
Dr. Annie Massey, DVM
Dr. Massey joined The Exotic Bird Hospital in 2011 after graduating from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Annie began volunteering at her local veterinary clinic in Pennsylvania at age 13, where she also assisted with wildlife rehabilitation. While earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal and Veterinary Science at West Virginia University, Annie developed an interest in animal behavior, which she fostered by training two puppies for service dog organizations. While attending Veterinary School, Annie served as president of the student chapter of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior as well as the Turtle Rescue Team, where she directed the treatment and rescue of over 200 injured turtles.
In addition to birds, Annie has nurtured a special interest in small mammal and reptile medicine and surgery. Annie lives with her husband and her Labrador/Golden Retriever mix, Indie.
