Description

Bollinger Canyon Animal Hospital, conveniently located in the San Ramon Valley, is a state-of-the-art, full service veterinary hospital. Founded in January 2008, BCAH provides exceptional personalized medicine and surgery for your pet.

We are a national award-winning hospital and also accredited by AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association). AAHA developed the Standards of Accreditation as benchmarks of excellence. Only the top 15% of practices in the country meet the AAHA standards. This commitment to the AAHA Standards and the Accreditation Program demonstrates that our practice has chosen to have itself voluntarily measured by an outside organization against the most rigorous standards in the industry.

Choosing us for your pet’s medical care assures you that we have the doctors, facilities, equipment, staff and medical protocols that are important in practicing the highest quality of medical care.

All this, combined with our caring and compassionate staff, is why all of the officers from the San Ramon Police Department K-9 unit choose Bollinger Canyon Animal Hospital to provide the best possible medical care for their devoted four-legged partners. Additionally, we are the principal veterinarians for Dogs for Diabetics (D4D places Medical Assistance Diabetic Alert Dogs with insulin-dependent diabetics). We thank them for their trust in us.

We encourage a partnership in your pet’s health by adopting ongoing preventative care and wellness plans. Our focus is on educating you, the caretaker, with information needed to make the right decision on your pet’s care.

We pledge to never underestimate the trust you place in us when you allow us to care for your pet and our philosophy is to always do what is best for your pet.

Dr. Block and Her Yellow Lab Allie

Dr. Sandy Block, our founder and president, has been serving the pets of the tri-valley area since 1990. She grew up all over, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, New Jersey, a 4-year stay in Brussels, Belgium and then settled in Missouri. Fortunate to be mentored by her aunt and uncle, Drs. Bob and Gale Dressler, her love for animals and veterinary medicine started when she was nine years old. She was a 4-H and has always been an avid horsewoman. She earned her B.S. in Animal Science in 1984 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1988 from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Veterinary Medicine.

Her veterinary interests are: the human-animal bond, internal medicine, pain management, dentistry, animal behavior and encouraging pet caretakers to adopt ongoing preventative care and wellness plans for their pets.

She is a member of several professional organizations, including:

American Veterinary Medical Association
American Animal Hospital Association
California Veterinary Medical Association
Contra Costa Veterinary Medical Association (executive board member)
International veterinary Academy of Pain Management

Sandy is a supporter of local animal welfare and rescue organizations. She is on the board of directors for Tony LaRussas Animal Rescue Foundation, is the veterinarian for Dogs For Diabetics (an organization in Concord that trains medical alert service dogs for diabetic patients) works with cci(Canine Companions for Independence) and Guide Dogs For the Blind. She serves as the veterinarian for the San Ramon police dogs Dar, Bongo and Hector. She is thrilled to be serving the community she lives in with her husband, David, sons, Austin and Peyton, yellow lab rescue, Allie, and career-changed D4D black lab, Harley.

In her spare time she is an avid hiker, camper, and horseback rider. She also enjoys cooking, reading, singing and photography. She is actively involved in the community including being an assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop 834. She belongs to the pta, is a member at St. Joan of Arc, involved in Christian Family Movement, supports Raptor lacrosse and Cal High Track and Field. She regularly speaks at local schools about her career and pet care.
